Numerical Methods in Computational Finance

Àâòîð: Daniel J. Duffy

This book is a detailed and step-by-step introduction to the mathematical foundations of ordinary and partial differential equations, their approximation by the finite difference method and applications to computational finance. The book is structured so that it can be read by beginners, novices and expert users. Part A Mathematical Foundation for One-Factor Problems Chapters 1 to 7 introduce the mathematical and numerical analysis concepts that are needed to understand the finite difference method and its application to computational finance. Part B Mathematical Foundation for Two-Factor Problems Chapters 8 to 13 discuss a number of rigorous mathematical techniques relating to elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations in two space variables. In particular, we develop strategies to preprocess and modify a PDE before we approximate it by the finite difference method, thus avoiding ad-hoc and heuristic tricks. Part C The Foundations of the Finite Difference Method (FDM) Chapters 14 to 17 introduce the mathematical background to the finite difference method for initial boundary value problems for parabolic PDEs. It encapsulates all the background information to construct stable and accurate finite difference schemes. Part D Advanced Finite Difference Schemes for Two-Factor Problems Chapters 18 to 22 introduce a number of modern finite difference methods to approximate the solution of two factor partial differential equations. This is the only book we know of that discusses these methods in any detail. Part E Test Cases in Computational Finance Chapters 23 to 26 are concerned with applications based on previous chapters. We discuss finite difference schemes for a wide range of one-factor and two-factor problems. This book is suitable as an entry-level introduction as well as a detailed treatment of modern methods as used by industry quants and MSc/MFE students in finance. The topics have applications to numerical analysis, science and engineering. More on computational finance and the author’s online courses, see www.datasim.nl.

Perturbation Methods in Credit Derivatives

Àâòîð: Colin Turfus

Stress-test financial models and price credit instruments with confidence and efficiency using the perturbation approach taught in this expert volume   Perturbation Methods in Credit Derivatives: Strategies for Efficient Risk Management  offers an incisive examination of a new approach to pricing credit-contingent financial instruments. Author and experienced financial engineer Dr. Colin Turfus has created an approach that allows model validators to perform rapid benchmarking of risk and pricing models while making the most efficient use possible of computing resources.  The book provides innumerable benefits to a wide range of quantitative financial experts attempting to comply with increasingly burdensome regulatory stress-testing requirements, including:  Replacing time-consuming Monte Carlo simulations with faster, simpler pricing algorithms for front-office quants Allowing CVA quants to quantify the impact of counterparty risk, including wrong-way correlation risk, more efficiently Developing more efficient algorithms for generating stress scenarios for market risk quants Obtaining more intuitive analytic pricing formulae which offer a clearer intuition of the important relationships among market parameters, modelling assumptions and trade/portfolio characteristics for traders The methods comprehensively taught in  Perturbation Methods   in Credit Derivatives  also apply to CVA/DVA calculations and contingent credit default swap pricing.

Probabilistic Theory of Stock Exchanges

Àâòîð: Anatoly Kondratenko

This monograph presents the foundations of the probabilistic theory of stock exchanges, built on the basis of probabilistic economic theory. Analytical and numerical methods of this theory are used for calculation of temporal dynamics of market prices and trade volumes of various assets on the Moscow Exchange and Intercontinental Exchange Futures Europe during one trading session and a detailed comparison of the theoretical results with the corresponding experimental data. This comparison demonstrates a good agreement between the theory and experiment, which allows us to assert that the main scientif ic problem of this study is solved inthe monograph, namely, it is shown that probabilistic economic theory finds its experimental confirmation and thereby acquires its solid experimental justification. This monograph may seem interesting to everyone who is engaged in research ineconomics, finance, econophysics or physical economics, as well as to professional investors and stock traders.

"Professional Financial Computing Using Excel and VBA is an admirable exposition that bridges the theoretical underpinnings of financial engineering and its application which usually appears as a «black-box» software application. The book opens the black-box and reveals the architecture of risk-modeling and financial engineering based on industry-standard stochastic models by utilizing Excel and VBA functionality to create a robust and practical modeling tool-kit. Financial engineering professionals who purchase this book will have a jumpstart advantage for their customized financial engineering and modeling needs." Dr. Cameron Wicentowich Vice President, Treasury Analytics Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) «Spreadsheet modeling for finance has become a standard course in the curriculum of many Quantitative Finance programs since the Excel-based Visual Basic programming is now widely used in constructing optimal portfolios, pricing structured products and managing risks. Professional Financial Computing Using Excel and VBA is written by a unique team of finance, physics and computer academics and practitioners. It is a good reference for those who are studying for a Masters degree in Financial Engineering and Risk Management. It can also be useful for financial engineers to jump-start a project on designing structured products, modeling interest term structure or credit risks.» Dr. Jin Zhang Director of Master of Finance Program and Associate Professor The University of Hong Kong «Excel has been one of the most powerful tools for financial planning and computing over the last few years. Most users utilize a fraction of its capabilities. One of the reasons is the limited availability of books that cover the advanced features of Excel for Finance. Professional Financial Computing Using Excel and VBA goes the extra mile and deals with the Excel tools many professionals call for. This book is a must for professionals or students dealing with financial engineering, financial risk management, computational finance or mathematical finance. I loved the way the authors covered the material using real life, hands-on examples.» Dr. Isaac Gottlieb Temple University Author, Next Generation Excel: Modeling in Excel for Analysts and MBAs

Àâòîð: Ãðóïïà àâòîðîâ

The digital world is characterized by its immediacy, its density of information and its omnipresence, in contrast to the concrete world. Significant changes will occur in our society as AI becomes integrated into many aspects of our lives. This book focuses on this vision of universalization by dealing with the development and framework of AI applicable to all. It develops a moral framework based on a neo-Darwinian approach – the concept of Ethics by Evolution – to accompany AI by observing a certain number of requirements, recommendations and rules at each stage of design, implementation and use. The societal responsibility of artificial intelligence is an essential step towards ethical, eco-responsible and trustworthy AI, aiming to protect and serve people and the common good in a beneficial way.

The Laws of Trading

Àâòîð: Agustin Lebron

Every decision is a trade. Learn to think about the ones you should do – and the ones you shouldn’t. Trading books generally break down into two categories: the ones which claim to teach you how to make money trading, and the memoir-style books recounting scandals and bad behavior. But the former don't have profitable trades to teach; if they did they'd keep those trades to themselves. And the latter are frequently entertaining, but they don't leave you with much you can apply in your own life. The Laws of Trading is different. All of our relationships and decisions involve trading at some level. This is a book about decision-making through the lens of a professional prop trader. For years, behavioral and cognitive scientists have shown us how human decision-making is flawed and biased. But how do you learn to avoid these problems in day-to-day decisions where you have to react in real-time? What are the important things to think about and to act on? The world needs a book by a prop trader who has lived, breathed and taught trading for a living, drawing upon years of insights on the trading floor in real markets, good and bad, whether going sideways, crashing, or bubbling over. If you can master the decision-making skills needed to profitably trade in modern markets, you can master decision-making in all walks of life. This book will teach you exactly those skills. Introduces, develops, and applies one law per chapter, making it easy not only to remember useful concepts, but also to have them at the ready in any situation. Shows you how to find and think about the “special edge” of your organization, and yourself. Teaches you how to handle the interaction of people with artificially intelligent (AI) machines that make decisions, a skill that is rapidly becoming essential in the AI-driven economy of the future. Includes a «bonus» digital ancillary, an Excel spreadsheet with various worked examples that expand on the scenarios described in the book. Do you need to make rational decisions in a competitive environment? Almost everyone does. This book will teach you the tools that let you do your job better.

Today's market participants have a myriad of tools at their disposal. Yet the success rate is that of old – 80% to 90% of traders fail to achieve their financial goals. This book shows traders how to get their investment act together. It covers in detail the three requirements needed for success: Winning psychology, effective money management and a written trading plan with an edge. The Nature of Trends also provides unique tools (for example the MIDAS tool) that provide low risk trade entry by telling the trader the level at which an entry may be safely effected Finally, the book provides the «Rule of 3» to manage a trade. These rules allow the trader to take profits and hold on for long-term profits without increasing risk.

It explains a financially motivated extension of the LIBOR Market model which accurately reproduces the prices for plain vanilla hedging instruments (swaptions and caplets) of all strikes and maturities produced by the SABR model. The authors show how to accurately recover the whole of the SABR smile surface using their extension of the LIBOR market model. This is not just a new model, this is a new way of option pricing that takes into account the need to calibrate as accurately as possible to the plain vanilla reference hedging instruments and the need to obtain prices and hedges in reasonable time whilst reproducing a realistic future evolution of the smile surface. It removes the hard choice between accuracy and time because the framework that the authors provide reproduces today's market prices of plain vanilla options almost exactly and simultaneously gives a reasonable future evolution for the smile surface. The authors take the SABR model as the starting point for their extension of the LMM because it is a good model for European options. The problem, however with SABR is that it treats each European option in isolation and the processes for the various underlyings (forward and swap rates) do not talk to each other so it isn't obvious how to relate these processes into the dynamics of the whole yield curve. With this new model, the authors bring the dynamics of the various forward rates and stochastic volatilities under a single umbrella. To ensure the absence of arbitrage they derive drift adjustments to be applied to both the forward rates and their volatilities. When this is completed, complex derivatives that depend on the joint realisation of all relevant forward rates can now be priced. VaR Methodology for Non-Gaussian Finance

Àâòîð: Marine Habart-Corlosquet

With the impact of the recent financial crises, more attention must be given to new models in finance rejecting “Black-Scholes-Samuelson” assumptions leading to what is called non-Gaussian finance. With the growing importance of Solvency II, Basel II and III regulatory rules for insurance companies and banks, value at risk (VaR) – one of the most popular risk indicator techniques plays a fundamental role in defining appropriate levels of equities. The aim of this book is to show how new VaR techniques can be built more appropriately for a crisis situation. VaR methodology for non-Gaussian finance looks at the importance of VaR in standard international rules for banks and insurance companies; gives the first non-Gaussian extensions of VaR and applies several basic statistical theories to extend classical results of VaR techniques such as the NP approximation, the Cornish-Fisher approximation, extreme and a Pareto distribution. Several non-Gaussian models using Copula methodology, L?vy processes along with particular attention to models with jumps such as the Merton model are presented; as are the consideration of time homogeneous and non-homogeneous Markov and semi-Markov processes and for each of these models. Contents 1. Use of Value-at-Risk (VaR) Techniques for Solvency II, Basel II and III. 2. Classical Value-at-Risk (VaR) Methods. 3. VaR Extensions from Gaussian Finance to Non-Gaussian Finance. 4. New VaR Methods of Non-Gaussian Finance. 5. Non-Gaussian Finance: Semi-Markov Models. About the Authors Marine Habart-Corlosquet is a Qualified and Certified Actuary at BNP Paribas Cardif, Paris, France. She is co-director of EURIA (Euro-Institut d’Actuariat, University of West Brittany, Brest, France), and associate researcher at Telecom Bretagne (Brest, France) as well as a board member of the French Institute of Actuaries. She teaches at EURIA, Telecom Bretagne and Ecole Centrale Paris (France). Her main research interests are pandemics, Solvency II internal models and ALM issues for insurance companies.
