Протопоп Аввакум (1620–1682) – один из основоположников старообрядческого раскола православной церкви и одновременно оригинальный писатель, которого считают родоначальником новой российской словесности, вольного образного слова, исповедальной прозы. МЕРЕЖКОВСКИЙ Дмитрий Сергеевич [1866–1941] – русский поэт, прозаик, критик, публицист, религиозный мыслитель, литературно-общественный деятель. Родился в семье придворного чиновника, ведшего свой род от Федора Мережки – войскового старшины на Украине. Учился в 3-й петербургской гимназии, затем на историко-филологическом факультете Петербургского университета (1883–1888), по окончании которого уехал на Кавказ. Там познакомился и в 1889 г. в Тифлисе обвенчался с З. Н. Гиппиус, ставшей его ближайшим духовным спутником на всю оставшуюся жизнь. С I курса юридического ф-та Московского университета был отчислен за участие в студенческих беспорядках и выслан в Феодосию. В 1899 г. совершил первое заграничное путешествие. По возвращении в Россию был снова выслан – в Туркестан. Полгода странствовал по среднеазиатской пустыне, затем уехал в Париж, где жил до 1907 г., занимаясь живописью и поэзией, время от времени наезжая в Петербург и совершая непрерывные путешествия по Европе. После личного знакомства с Бальмонтом и другими поэтами-символистами, Волошин примкнул к русской символической школе, в органах которой («Новый путь», «Весы», «Золотое руно» и др.) начали печататься его рисунки, стихи, статьи по литературе и искусству. С 1909 г. принял также участие в боевом органе акмеистов – журнале «Аполлон», по вопросам живописи выступая вместе с кубистами. В 1913 г. снова уехал в Париж. Был кадровым офицером сначала в царской, а затем в колчаковской армии. В 1920 г. судьба забросила его во временно независимый Владивосток, где и вышли первые книги стихотворений поэта. В 1924 г. бежал из СССР, перейдя через китайскую границу, и поселился в Харбине, в Маньчжурии. В эмиграции поэтический талант Несмелова вспыхнул с особенной силой; он занял прочное положение «лучшего русского поэта Китая». В эмигрантских литературных кругах его прозвали «Бояном русского Харбина». В августе 1945 г., когда советские войска вошли в Харбин, поэт был арестован и переправлен в Советский Союз, где примерно через месяц, в пересыльной тюрьме на станции Гродеково (близ Владивостока), умер от кровоизлияния в мозг. Несмелов – автор более чем десятка книг, изданных в Москве, Владивостоке, Харбине, Шанхае. О раннем сборнике Несмелова «Уступы» (1924) Борис Пастернак коротко написал в письме к жене: «Хорошие стихи».

Die relativ schlichte Rahmenhandlung wird durch die intensive Beschreibung der Charaktere ersetzt, die den inneren Seelenzustand gnadenlos freilegen.
Wertvoll ist der Roman speziell auch deshalb, weil er die «okkulten Fallen» aufdeckt, wie das «Channeln und den Spirtimus».
