Chapter 1 – Crack of shards Sunday, June 29,2014: While Marcus spends Sunday in his villa with his family, Bj?rn is tormented by yesterday's events. He could hardly find sleep in the early hours of the day. It was just before six o' clock when he went to sleep. But he could barely make an eye. He constantly saw the images in front of his inner eye.
How Bibi, despite the greatest humiliations, chummed up Marcus and his «like-minded». Without pride, without dignity, like abused cattle. He couldn't forget the sight of her. The make-up smeared face, her wet, sticky dress. Stained with beer, sperm and spit.
Again and again he saw her tied to the heating pipe. Ready to be climbed and used like a disposable item. And he had her voices in his ear all the time. The laughing and smiling men. How they made fun of Bibi, how they took Bibi's every kind of humanity.
He could hear Marcus. With his boastful sayings, with his humiliating words. And he heard Bibi's bright, whiny, moaning voice. How she tried to please everyone. The way she humiliated herself on command. How she gave the last spark of free will when she begged for more and thanked the greasy men for it.
Bj?rn was in a bad way. And his guilty conscience tormented his mind. He decided to pay Bibi a visit. He wanted to check on her. Make sure she's okay.
Around 17:00 Bj?rn arrives in Bornheim. He and his Mercedes parked in the courtyard of the big tenement house. His arrival will not go unnoticed. Various tenants watch him through their windows with a view of the courtyard. Bj?rn turns upstairs to Bibi's apartment.
When he finally gets to her apartment, he sees something on the white door. There someone wrote the word «KURVA» in big red letters with a felt-tip pen. In various Slavic languages this word stands for slut, whore, hooker and similarly defamatory.

Marcus orders a fresh pot of coffee. Including Tuscany breakfast. Marcus loves the fresh tomato mozzarella salad, paired with delicious ham scrambled eggs. Again and again he looks at his smartphone. There's no trace of Bibi. The last time he saw her was when she was still serving the drinks.
Marcus had himself amused himself with the loans of other masters that night. But mainly he spent his time making contacts. That's how he met Helge Jan?en yesterday. A rich investor from Kiel. He will be looking for an office building in Frankfurt. Throughout the hustle and bustle, he lost track of Bibi. He knows Peter Moser was last with Adrian Herzog. But not if she's still with him.
Adrian Herzog is a red scarf for Marcus Alexander. Almost three years ago, the Viennese banker ruined his financing of a major project in Vienna. Too high a risk, too little collateral, Adrian's bank backed down. Marcus bears this to date, the order volume was 28 million euros.
Marcus still enjoys his breakfast. Although he's waiting in vain to receive a text message from Bibi. He wrote her one time in the night. She was supposed to go to breakfast at 9:30. His position as a master and his ego forbid him to write or even call her again. He mustn't appear to be running after Bibi.

They celebrate the happy feast in the circle of Adrian's family. They spend the next few days with Adrian's brother Harald and his sister-in-law Paula in Vail. Harald and his wife have been living for almost 20 years in Vail Colorado, the largest ski resort in the USA. They are at home in the Eagel county.
The two brothers meet three to four times a year. Harald is much older than Adrian. He is already 47 years old and decided against a career at his father's bank. His father paid him his inheritance in 1990. That was 61 million shillings at the time. This corresponded to about 8.71 million German marks.
Even though Harald didn't want to be a banker, he was a capable businessman through and through. In Vail he and his future wife built a cosy hotel for ski enthusiastic tourists. Especially German-speaking guests are the focus of their attention. Today, his company has an annual turnover of about $7 million and employs at least 25 people throughout the year. This is one of the reasons why Harald was always a role model for Adrian. A big brother he could always ask for advice. Which he could look up to.

Annika is in front of Bj?rn's door. She's having a fight. Of course she announced herself. Bj?rn knows she's gonna hit him. But now that it is so far away, when she is standing in front of his door, Annika starts to ponder. «What am I going to tell him?» she thinks hard.
Her last meeting in Donaustadt was not exactly tenderness. On the contrary, she had admitted Bj?rn had continued to have feelings for him. But she also accused him of complicity in her condition. A reproach that Bj?rn cannot deny. Annika painfully remembers this quarrel.
But now the omens have changed. Annika is back in Frankfurt. She has left Austria head over heels. She's devastated. Annika doesn't see a future for herself and Adrian at the moment. Nevertheless, she doesn't really know what she wants in Frankfurt. And when she stands in front of Bj?rn's door, she considers herself what she is looking for and hopes to find there. But before she can knock on the door, it opens.
Annika:"Hello Bj?rn". Bj?rn:"Hey Annika.... how long has it been now"? Annika:"I don't know. A few months, maybe? Will you let me in? Bj?rn:"Of course. Come in ".
Annika sits in the armchair next to Bj?rn's couch. He'll get a beer and a Coke for Annika. The atmosphere is tingling. It is filled with uncertainty. What do you think will happen next?

"The Jungle Book" (1894) is a collection of stories by English author Rudyard Kipling. The stories were first published in magazines in 1893–94. The original publications contain illustrations, some by Rudyard's father, John Lockwood Kipling. Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England, he went back to India and worked there for about six-and-a-half years. These stories were written when Kipling lived in Vermont. There is evidence that it was written for his daughter Josephine, who died in 1899 aged six, after a rare first edition of the book with a poignant handwritten note by the author to his young daughter was discovered at the National Trust's Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire in 2010.
The tales in the book (and also those in «The Second Jungle Book» which followed in 1895, and which includes five further stories about Mowgli) are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of «The Law of the Jungle», for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. Kipling put in them nearly everything he knew or «heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle.» Other readers have interpreted the work as allegories of the politics and society of the time. The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned «man cub» Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other stories are probably «Rikki-Tikki-Tavi», the story of a heroic mongoose, and «Toomai of the Elephants», the tale of a young elephant-handler. As with much of Kipling's work, each of the stories is preceded by a piece of verse, and succeeded by another.
